(Tuesdays with Morrie)
(Mitch Albom)

(The five people you meet in heaven)
(Mitch Albom)

Dear friends,

I am now writing to you in Auckland, our last two days in New Zealand. Tomorrow after dinner, we will transfer to airport to check in for the mid night flight back to Hong Kong on 16 December, at around 7am.

Our final five days activities are outlined below for your reference.

10 December : Free day at Rotorua
In the late morning, we walked 2km from the Alpin Motel to city centre. As Rotorua is situated in the active thermal valley, there is the sulphur in the air and acrid-smelling even within the city vicinity. We had lunch in a very small Chinese restaurant " Weilin's Noodle House ". There are only 8 tables for around 30 people. Only two young Chinese are working in the restaurant, one as cook and the other responsible for everything.
We had tried :
Fishball noodle soup - NZ$9.5 = HK$57
Vegetable noodle soup - NZ$7.5 = HK$45
Fishball soup - NZ$8.5 = HK$51

After lunch, we visited the Maori Ohinemutu village situated at the edge of Lake Rotorua with several thermal bubbling hot spring ponds scattering inside the village and a small beautiful church ( St. Faith Anglican, established in 1880 ). Later on, we went to the Government Garden and Musuem of Art and History. It is a nice and quiet place with beautiful flowers, lawn and Elizabethan architectural features of houses and garden settings. But the weather was not good for the whole day, cloudy, windy and raining all the time. We returned to motel at 5pm and left at 6pm with the group to the Mitai Maori village right in the natural bush, the sacred and spiritual area in the village. Mitai is the family name of this Maori village. It is a cultural experience evening trip, including an introduction to Maori culture, see warriors in traditional dress paddling a weka ( ancient warrior war canoe in a narrow, crystal stream, see glow worns ( but not many ), marvel at crystal clear water flowing directly from the underground, see a cultural performance ( poi dance & songs ) about their past, carvings and art with explanations. This is a good trip to learn something about the Maori.

11 December : Drive to Coromandel
Today's weather was still cloudy and occasional showers. Our bus travelled past Lake Rotorua and through the Kamai Mamaka forest to Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty. Here, the mild climate is excellent for kiwi fruit growing, one of NZ's most recognisable icons. We visited the " Kiwi 360 " which is a farm/cultural tourist attraction, covering 13.5 hectares of park-like grounds. You can enjoy coffee and snack in the courtyard coffee and the shop for kiwi fruit, gifts & souvenirs. There is a kiwi fruit orchard tour providing a close look at the growth cycle of both the green and gold kiwi fruit and seasonal activities, and how this land is able to grow the world's healthiest fruit better than anywhere in the world.

The story of kiwi fruit : In 1904,a school teacher planted the first Chinese gooseberry seeds in rich NZ soil. The vines and the industry flourished beyond all expectations. The kiwi fruit is now one of NZ's major exports and the story of its success is a real testament to kiwi ingenuity. Kiwi fruit grown here is deservedly known as the very best in the world.

In mid day, we arrived Mauao, Tauranga region and started a walk up to the summit of Mount Maunganui ( Mauao Walking Tracks ) which is situated beside miles of white sand beaches and the Pacific Ocean. The beaches in this area are numerous and famous for surfing. This area is also popular with boutique shopping, top restaurants and cafes. When we stood high on the top of Mount Maunganui ( 232m ), we could see endless long beaches and remote bays in two directions and stunning 360 degree views of the Pacific Ocean ans nearby islands. We also took a walk along the beach and left this place at around 1:30pm. About 2:30pm, we went up a small hill to view the martha Mine which is the second largest gold mine of NZ, still in operations. The mine just looks like a big volcano crater ( length : 2860m / width : 2280m / depth : 600m ). There is a huge truck ( demonstration : model 777 dump truck, maximum loading-100 tons ) specially designed for transporting mines.

Before arriving today's final destination, Coromandel we had a short stop at the Rings beach, a nice beach. Finally, we checked in the Anchor Lodge at 6:30pm. This is a simple lodge without restaurant. The room is spacious with a small terrace, kitchen facilities and a seating place. The surrouding is nice, only a few minutes walk to the main street of the town. Coromandel is a tiny sea shore town, a short main street with a few shops, restaurants, a bank and a post office. To night, we had pan fried fish with rice, chicken salad for our dinner at a small restaurant in the main street.

12 December : At Coromandel Peninsula
The Coromandel Peninsula has a diverse land scape on a small scale. On one side we find bare mountains of volcanic origin and on the side a rugged coastline with beautiful beaches. We left Anchor lodge at 10am. After a short drive, we started a half hour walk in the waiau kauri Grove to see the biggest tree " Kauri " in NZ.Kauri is not the tallest ( Kahikatea Ia tallest ) but they have the largest volume of timber. Kauri is not only live to be a great age, their family history can be traced back to the age of the dinosaurs. Few trees in the world are bigger. The very long lived one was 4000 years old it died.

We drove to Haihel beach and started out another 2.5-hour walk to Cathedral Cove, along the coastal cliff and the Hauhel beach. The small beaches and rocks at the Cathedral Cove are spectacular. At around 3pm, we stopped at the Hot Water beach. This is a fascinating place - for two hours either side of low tide, we can dig in the sand on the beach sea floor for hot spring water and make our spa pool. However, we missed the time of low tide and could not see and try this game. We returned to the Coromandel town centre and took a leisure walk along the main street. We had a second overnight at the Anchor Lodge and a group farewell dinner was arranged in the Admirals Restaurant. The food was good and we had tried the lamb rack, deep sea fish and mussels. Some of the menu items are outlined below for reference :
Wine : EAK Valley " Rose " Hawkes Bay " 06 " NZ$7 per glass / NZ$30 bottle
Mussel : A bowl of 13 fresh local mussel steamed in gsrlic, wine, cream and parsley - NZ$14
Baked fish of the day : NZ$26.5
Chargrilled Siron : NZ$26
King Prawns : NZ$14
Oysters Kilpatrick : one dozen/NZ$20

13 December : Wiomu Grove Walk, then drive to Auckland
In the morning, we started out at 9:15 with a short drive along the peninsula to the village of Waiomu. Along the coastal highway, there are beautiful trees with red flowers ( called X'mas tree by local people ). We completed a 2-hour hike in the Waiomu Kauri Grove Track, involving streams and rivers crossing. Arriving Thames at 12:30pm, we had one hour lunch break and continued our journey to Auckland after lunch.

The central city of Auckland is nestled between the waters & two harbours and is dotted with 48 extinct volcanic cones, all of which have erupted in the last 150,000 years. Among the most prominent is Mount Eden near the central city which boasts a vast crater and magnificent 360 degree views across to both Pacific and Tasman coasts. As NZ's largest city, Auckland has a population of about 1.3 million.On arriving Auckland, we went up to the top of Mount Eden from where there are views of the Skytower, harbours and the city layouts. We also visited the One Tree Hill Domain ( Winter Garden ) before checking in our Hotel ( Best Western New President ), right in the heart of the city central, next to the Skytower. After saying farewell to each group member and the leader, it marked the end of our " Kiwi Explorer "trip in NZ.

14 December : Auckland at leisure
As usual, I woke up at around 5. Looking out from the hotel window, the Skytower looks like a towering giantic statue, standing in the mist of dawn. No motor car or any people are in the streets beneath the Skytower. Everything seemed to be standing still, calm and quiet. In this morning, I finished reading the book " The Five People You Meet in Heaven ", the part of the last three people Eddie met in the Heaven. At that point in time, the stories of this book really made me feel unusual and I am totally agreed the importance of positive attitude of simple living and life, mutual understanding/communication and forgiving yourself and other people. I highly recommend this book to you.

We left hotel at around 9:15 and walked along the waterfront. The places we visited : Princes Wharf/Queens Wharf/Viaduct Wharf/Auckland Bridge/Chancery/Qeens Street. I also had a hair cut in the late afternoon. Tomorrow, our last day we will visit the Devonport, a nice small town.

I miss all of you and look forward to seeing some of you in the coming HKEHT Monday day-hike.

Very best regards from CK

Hi everyone,

Before telling you more about my trip in New Zealand ( NZ ), I would like to summarize the prices of meals for your reference and information.

With the exception of a Hangi dinner ( cooked in traditional earthfire oven ) together with a cultural performance at Rotorua, all meals are not provided with the trip price. Therefore, we have to pay our breakfast, lunch and dinner directly at restaurants and eateries in motels ( most of them without restaurant ), hotels, lodges and town malls close to our overnight accommodations. For very few breakfasts and lunches, the team leader will run a " Kitty " system with each group member contributing NZ$100 ( HK$600 ). He will buy fresh breakfast and lunch items for day hikes and walks where there is no restaurant or time problem. Normally, we have picnic or packed lunch.

Breakfast :
Light - white & brown bread ; tea & coffe ( NZ$6 to 8 = HK$36 to 48 ).
Continental - white & brown bread ; cereal ; yoghurt, ; juice ; fresh fruit ; jam & cheese ; tea & coffe ( NZ&15 to 18 = HK$90 to 108 ).
Full - including items of continental and choice of cooked food like eggs ( scrambled/fried/poached ) ; bacon ; susage and ham etc., ( NZ$18 to 25 = HK$108 to 150 ).
Cooked Food - you can order one cooked food with bread, tea and coffe ; different prices for each choice, like hot porridge & eggs with meats/potatoes etc., ( NZ$10 to 20 = HK$60 to 120 ).

Lunch : Western or Chinese foods ranged from NZ$10 to 30 = HK$60 to 180 ).

Dinner : Western or Chinese foods ranged from NZ$20 to 35 = HK$120 to 210.

Do it yourself : Buying from supermarket ( noodle/meat/vegetable/sandwich etc., ), eating in your room or public seating area ). Prices are a little bit less than dining out in restaurant except in a group.

Due to East and West meals cultures, habits and currency exchange, for most of the Hong Kongers it may be a problem during a long trip in countries like NZ.

7 December : Morning on Queen Charlotte walking, then by ferry to Wellington
In the morning ( 8:00 ), we hiked another section of the Queen Charlotte Track from Portage Hotel through dense coastal rainforest with abundant and gigantic tree ferns ( the icon of NZ ). Arriving at Mistletoe Bay, camping area, we boarded our boat at 11:45am which took us back to Picton at 12:30pm. And then, we queued at Picton's ferry pier for a ferry which took sailed ( 2pm - 5:15pm ) via the Tory Channel and Marlborough Sounds to the Cook Strait and onwards to Wellington. This ferry carrying vehicles is a large ship with food court, bar, restaurant, children playground, cinema, three levels of decks with comfortable seats & TV. During the 3-hour ferry ride, I took the chance to finish reading the book " Tuesday With Morrie ". This is a good book (Chinese translation version-Taiwan ) that I highly recommand to you.

We checked in our Hotel, The Bay Plaza which is ideally situated with a harbour view in the city centre. There are quite a lot of shops and restaurants nearby the Hotel. Tonight, we had our supper in a Chinese Restaurant ( steamed fish and beef vegetable ).

8 December : Sightseeing in Wellington, then drive to Tongariro National Park
We started the day at 9:15am with a sightseeing tour of Wellington, a place known as the " Wind City ". First, we went to Mount Victoria which is a very small hill in the city centre, not far from our Hotel. From the top, we had a grand view of the Wellington harbour and the city encircled by green, hills and waterways. Wellington is the Capital of NZ. But there are only a few tall buildings. After that, we also visited the Parliament House, Government House and Wellington Cathedral. later on, we had one and half hour to visit the Te Papa Musuem which is a modern building, specifically designed for anti earth quake. We also walked around the nearly harbour front walkway and enjoyed a short snack with hot chocolate at a little open cafe. We left Welligton at about 12:15pm. On the way, we stopped at Foxton, a small town and visited a windmill dedicated to the early Dutch settlers who landed here. This is the only windmill built in NZ. In the afternoon, we had another coffe break in a small town, Taihape. Surprisely, there are two to three small Chinese restaurants. We had tried a bowl of wan ton noodle BBQ pork soup in the " Country Man " Chinese restaurant, the owner speaking cantonese coming from Kwong Chow. The noodle soup is quite good.

In the afternoon, we stopped at Ohakune township to view the active volcano, the highest vocano in NZ and also sacred mountain of Maori. We also saw a typical old-fasfioned railway bridge hanging high across a river among natural forest. It looks like the bridge in the movie " The Bridge on the River Kwai ". We drove along the railway which is full of little yellow flowers on both sides of the railway. It is beautiful. And then, we drove through thermal valleys and volcanic valleys. We had seen smokes coming out from the hills and over tree tops of the forest. At last, we checked in Skotal Alpine Resort, situated in Whakapapa Village, not far from Mount Ruapehu, the highest active volcano in NZ.

9 December : Hike the Tongariro Crossing, then on to Rotorua
Today, we had an early start to hike the Mount Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Mounts Ngauruhoe and Tongariro are active volcanoes. The traverse of the stary and spectacular volcanic terrain of Mount Tongariro is one of the most fascinating treks in NZ. Among its highlights are steaming vents and hot springs, old lava flows, beautiful water filled craters and stunning views. On clear days we can see Mount Tarunaki in the west, Mount Ngauruhoe, the Kaimanawa Ranges, Lake Taupo and beyond.The crossing is a trek over steep volcanic terrain and a reasonable level of fitness is required.

During the trek, we climbed up to the summit of the Red Crater ( 1886m ) is the highest point on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. From here, the track descends steeply to the Emerald Lakes along the crater rim. Minerals from the adjoining thermal created area cause brilliant colours. These are the only views , two emerald coloured lakes, I could see throughout the entire trek. Unfortunately, there were heavy rain, strong wind especially on the crater rims and visibilty was low. We could not even stop for drinking water because too windy and too cold in the mid level, the top and rims. I felt pain when the raindrops hit on my face. Under such adverse conditions, I have no choice but just kept on walking and walking non-stop for four and half hours up and down hills. The normal estimated crossing hours required is 5.5 to 7.5 hours ( not including stops ) and the distance is 18.5km. Despite having unable to see much of the highlights, I still consider this an memorable day hike. After all, I may come back again with HKEHT and have another chance to see them all in a nice and lovely weather.

After picking up other team members at the end of the crossing, we drove northwards alongside Lake Taupo, NZ's biggest lake to Rotorua, the most active thermal area in the country and checked in the Motel Alpin, 2km from the city centre, fully equipped with a spacious seating room, full kitchen facilities, TV and an individually heated plunge pool in a private courtyard. At the time of writing this message, the weather is still cloudy, windy and raining.

Best wishes from CK

Dear friends,

I am writing to you from Queen Charlotte Sound, a tracking area in the north part of the South Island, New Zealand. The north of the South Island and the West Coast are considered two of the most beautiful and relaxing places in New Zealand.

Tonight, we are staying in the Portage Resort Hotel, after a 5-hour walk ( 15km ). This Hotel has 35 rooms with spa and swimming pool, restaurant and cafe right by the water of Kenepuru Sound. The restaurant, Te Weka is situated in the orignal dining room of The Portage Questhouse built in 1931. Te Weka takes its name from Weka Point of the famous Portage view. The room is spacious and comfortable. After a day of walk in the Queen Charlotte Track, we had dinner in the Hotel fine dining restaurant with nice views of the Sound and enjoyed a glass of Marlborough white wine ( world famous Sauvignon Blanc with Sounds salmon, lamb rocks and blue cod ). But it was cloudy, windy and no sunset view in the evening.

During the day trek, one of the female team members, fell over into a 10-foot deep creek. Her head hit on the rock. She was extremely lucky that the injury seemed not serious. However, we called the local ambulance ( speed boat ) to take her to Picton's hospital for a check. After a thorough check-up by the doctor, her condition is satisfactory and she rejoined us.

Here is a brief note of our past week's activities :

2 December : Hiking in Matukituki valley
In the morning, after a short drive into the Matukituki valley, we divided into two groups. Group A with five team members set off from the track head at 350m above sea-level, on a 5-hour trek to the Roys Peak ( summit 1670 m above sea-level ). Group B took a short walk around the Diamond Lake. With lovely weather, there were splendid views of the surrounding lakes and mountains. I believe it is one of the most spectacular scenery anywhere in the wilderness. The pinnacle of the surrounding views is Mount Aspiring ( 3033m ) which rises from its flanking glaciers and the green/blue lakes. At around 2:30pm, we took another two and halh hours leisure walk along Wanaka Lake. We stopped at serveral nice view point, enjoying the beauty of the lakes and mountain. We had tasted a nice sorbet ( strawberry & lemon ) at an outdoor cafe of a lake-front, resort hotel. We had a Thai & Japnese dinner ( sushmi/sushi/fish steak ).

3 December : From Wanaka to Fox Glacier
Still heading up the West Coast in the South Island, our journey took us alongside lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka. We had taken three short walks ( Ship Creek/Dunes Lake/Swamp Forest circle ). After a picnic lunch at a beautiful long beach ( over 80km ), we took a 1-hour return walk to the Fox Glacier ( 250m above sea-level ) which is the lowest sea-level glacier flown into green forest. We arrived Fox Glacier Township at around 6:30pm and checked in a motel equipped with kitchen facilities, but no restaurant. We had our buffet dinner in a nearby hotel restaurant.

4 December : North via Punakaiki to Westport
I woke up at 4am and left the motel at around 4:30am, with the aim to view the famous refection of the Lake Matheson. I finished a 5km walk to the lake head in 40 minutes. It was a very enjoyable walk under light mist under a stary sky, with a hanging new moon and gentle breeze. And then, I took another one hour circle walk around the lake shore which covered by natural dense forest. On the way back, I also enjoyed very much the beauty of the quiet morning under gentle golden sun light. It was only me there walking in the the forest and valley, watched by cows, horeses, sheeps and big old trees. Surely, I will not forget this in my life. I hurried back to the motel just in time to have a quick & simple breakfast in the room before departure at 8am. We stopped at a small town and visited a famous jade carvings gallery. After that we had one hour walk to the famous Pancake rocks,. It was a pleasant walk along the Pacific Ocean cliff. Because the tides were not strong enough, so we could not see the blowholes erupting seawater high into the air as the water surges deep into the cliffs. But the overall views are wonderful. After lunch, we walked the Truman Track along the cliffs down to a pebble beach, on a round trip about two hours. We checked in the Chelsea gateway Motel at Westport at around 7:15pm. Tonight, we made our dinner in the motel room ( noodle, vegetable and chicken ).

5 December : Cross the Northern end of South Island to Picton
As usual, we started at around 9am. Before heading inland, we stopped off at Cape Foulwind for another coastal walk and had seen a sea colony. At the end of the walk, we had a small birthday party for a team member at the track head picnic area, facing the Pacific Ocean. After a lunch break in Murchion, we drove along the Buller River to Lake Rotoiti where we had another 3-hour walk in the Nelson Lakes National Park. There was a little incident at the end of the walk. A female member got lost in the forest for about 40 minutes. With the help of mobile phone, our team leader found her and took her out of the forest and we continued journey ( 123km drive ) to our overnight stop.We checked in the Picton Beachcomer Inn at 7:45pm. Around 8:15pm, we had dinner in our Hotel restaurant. Besides enjoying our meal, we also had a chance to see a very beautiful sunset view at around 8:40pm, lasting about 10 minutes. The beautiful changing pink coloured clouds with light blue sky is absolutely spectacular and is one of the best sunset views I have seen. It was a pity that I did not have the camera with me. This wonderful sunset images can only stay in my mind.

6 december : Hike on the Queen Charlotte track
At 8am, we departed on board a Sounds cruise ( one hour ride ) out from Picton into the beautiful Queen Charlotte Sound to Ship Cove, our hiking start point. The Queen Charlotte Track ( 71km walking track ) stretches from historic Ship Cove ( Captain James Cook's five visits to New Zealand between 1770-1778 ) to Anakina, passing through lush coastal forest, around coves and inlets and along skyline ridges offering good views of Kenepuru and Queen Charlotte Sounds right in the top of South Island. The entire track can be walked in four days. Track walkers can stay overnight at lodges, hotels and resorts. Basing themselves at these places, they can do a mix of walking, mountain biking and sea kayaking.

At about 9am, we started from Ship Cove the Queen Charlotte Track and climbed through lush rain forest for half hour to the first lookout. Today's weather was poor, cloudy with very strong wind. There was not much to see. About 1:30pm, we arrived Furneaux Lodges where we took a 1-hour cruise at 3pm to our overnight stay, The Portage Resort Hotel.

Tomorrow, we will hike another section of the track through dense beech forest with abundant and gigantic tree ferns. After the track, we will take a cruise back to Picton. In the afternoon, we will catch the inter-islander ferry which takes us via the Tory Channel and Marlborough Sounds to the Cook Strait and onwards to Wellington to start our North Island journey.

With best regards from CK

Dear Julie,

It is nice to read your message.
We are now about half way of our holiday. There are usually one and sometimes two short tracks a day. So far, I can manage the short walks, the longest one was for 6 hours. But on a couple of days, there are no walks and I particularly like them. This is our second time here but not much memory except New Zealand is a quiet, clean and green country suitable for relaxation.
There will be one day next week that I need to walk for 7 hours and I am not sure if I can handle it.
So much for now, it is good to be able to talk to you. Please send our regard to all.

CK: I'm almost certain that this will be the most enjoyable hiking you have experienced so far - picturesque landscape, exhilarating weather and above all you are sharing them with your life companion. Our warmest regards to you and Kitty!

Dear friends,

With its beautiful landscape, fresh air, unspoiled & uninhabited wilderness areas and special geographical location, New Zealand is undoubtedly, an ideal place to live and retire. It is also a paradise for nature lovers, hikers and hillwalkers.

27 November : South Island ( 6th day in New Zealand )
Our " Kiwi Explorer " Team ( 4 German : 3 females & 1 male ; 1 male Belgium ; 1 male German leader/driver/guide ) started to go south to Queenstown in the early morning. We drove across the flat Canterbury plains and stopped at Lake Tekapo for a short break and photo. After lunch in Queenstown, three of us ( including me & my wife, Kitty ) hiked up to the summit of Mount John. There is an small observatory on the top of this small hill which also commands good views of the southern Alps and the beautiful Lake Tekapo. The other four team members took a scenic flight to view Mount Cook and the glaciers. Continuing our drive through passes and the Kawarau River Gorge, we arrived Queenstown late in the afternoon.

28 November :
Free day in Queenstown.
Queenstown is an alpine resort. We two took a walk ( approximately 4-5 km ) from our hotel along the shore of Lake Wakatipu to town centre. The views in this morning are very beautiful, with blue/ white clouds, blue water lake and snow peaks surrounding the aera. We spent sometime wandering around the centre and joined an optional tour to a beautiful farm beneath Walter Peak by an old-fashioned steamship. The farm houses are nice with gardens surrounding ( many beautiful flowers ). We enjoyed the stay, especially the afternoon English tea/coffee with scones and cakes in a fine dining area . After having dinner in a Chinese restaurant, instead of taking the public bus we walked for one and half hour along the lake shore back to our hotel, just in time to admire the sunset views of Queenstown and the lake.

29 November :
This morning we had a beautiful drive along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau, the last town before heading to Fiordland National Park. We hiked for 4 hours in the Kepler Track which is in the densed forest beneath Mount Luxmore. After a visit to a bird sanctuary ( Te Anau Wildlife Centre ), we checked in the hotel at 5:30pm.

30 November :
To day we had a whole day in the Fiordland National Park. Early in the morning, we drove to Milford Sound Harbour. We had a short walk along the Mirror Lake. Arriving at the Harbour, we embarked " Milford Mariner " for a two and half hours cruise, setting off at 10:30am. This area has the highest rain fall in New Zealand, over 200 wet days every year. Some years ago, when we were here, the weather was bad and cloudy. But today the weather was very fine and lovely. We enjoyed the cruise ride in Milford Sound under blue sky and beautiful surroundings. The scenery is amasing. Returning to the dry land, we had a pinic lunch in a small valley beneath snow mountains. After that, we set off again on a 3-hour hiking excursion up to the dramatic viewpoint of Key Summit on the Routeburn Track. From the top, we have superb views down into the valleys and the snow-capped mountains, ranging 3000 metres to 7000 metres above sea-level.

Today, we are lucky to have spectacular scenery and good weather. We returned to Te Anau at around 8pm, our second overnight town. Te Anau is a small, quiet lake shore resort in Fiordland National Park. Last night, we had encountered a few seconds earthquate. The bed was shaken sightly. Such minor earthquate is common in New Zealand.

1 December :
After one and half hour drive, we stopped at Queenstown for lunch. And then, we followed the Kawarau River Gorge and arrived the world famous A. J. Hacket bungy bridge. We stopped off to take photos of the jumps. No body from our team had tried the bungy jump which is 43 metre high, the world first bungy. A short detour then took us to Arrow Town, an old gold rush village which was the first Chinese settlement in New Zealand. We then drove over the Crown Range, following New Zealand's highest road ( about 1245 metre above sea-level ). On the way to our overnight stop town, Wanaka we had visited two historical sites and checked in the Fairway Motel not far from the town centre.

Up to now, I already have some ideas of the itinerary for the first few days of HK Emerald Hiking Team's New Zealand hiking and touring trip tentatively planned for end 2008 which is considered the best time of the year. So far, the overnight accommodations are good. The 12-seater van is comfortable, spacious with a large storage area at the rear part. The local agent also has some larger vans.

As for dinner, we had tried some Chinese restaurants which are not bad at all. The price is more or less the same as in Hong Kong. Therefore, HKEHT can have the choice of Chinese meal in almost every overnight stop. Venison ( deer meat ) and New Zealand lamb are delicious. Kiwi fruit is tasty, sweet and juicy. It is entirely different from those we have in Hong Kong and mainland China. Ice cream is also great, particularly those mixed up with fresh fruits like blueberry as and when you make an order.

By leaving messages about my New Zealand trip as I go along, I am trying to keep a record and to send home useful materials for HKEHT's proposed New Zealand trip next year and also for the information of those interested in joining the tour.

With all my best wishes !

Wanaka, New Zealand,
1 December, 2007, 10:06pm.

Dear friends,

For the past three days on our own in Christchurch, normally, we left the hotel at around 10:00am and walked about five to six hours each day. The weather is lovely. We have visited Victoria Square; Victoria Park; Hagley Park ( including the Botanic Garden ); a day hike on Port Hills ( Bridle Path ); the Art Centre; the Cathedral Square & weekend market; Christchurch Art Centre; Art Centre weekend market; the Avon River; Sumner Beach; New Brighton Beach and Canterbury Musuem etc.

Today, we hiked up to the top of the Port Hills from the Heathcote valley and then walked along the crater rim walkways to the lookout and the Gondola Station on the hilltop. During the hike, we can see the cityscape of Christchurch; the Canterbury Peninsula; Lake Ellesmere and Lyttleton Harbour, formed in a sunken volcanic crater and also the panaramic views of the beaches of Pegasus Bay with the Pacific Ocean. The views up in the hills are breath-taking. It is amusing to see millions of small yellow flowers , just like sea of flowers. The flowers are bright and golden under the strong sun ray.

In the afternoon, we walked down hills to Lyttleton where we took a public bus back to our Hotel in Christchurch, just in time to catch up with the " Kiwi Explorer " trip briefing. Lyttleton is a colourful, quiet and small sea port. Lyttleton Harbour Basin, one of the most scenic heritage trails in Christchurch. In fact, Lyttleton Harbour is the caldera ( or collapsed crater ) of the long-extinct Banks Peninsula volcano.

Tomorrow, we will leave Christchurch at 7:30am and have a long day ( the longest day of the whole trip ), expecting to arrive Queen's town at 7pm.

Now that, it's time for me to go to bed. Will tell you more about our vacation in this green country.

Best wishes and regards from CK
Christchurch/New Zealand, 11:38pm/26 November, 2007.

Hi everyone,

We left Hong Kong airport at 7pm on 22 November, after about 11 hours flight to Auckland and connected 1.5 hour domestic flight to Christchurch, we arrived at around 3:30pm, on 23 November, local time .

Voted the world's best garden city, Christchurch is flanked by harbours to the south, plains and mountains to the north and west, and the Pacific Ocean to the east. The weather here is fine, sunny with blue sky. Daytime temperature is 25 degree centigrade. Our friend took us to the New Brighton Plier, facing the Pacific Ocean and the Sumner Beach, a nice resident area. We will stay in this beautiful and quiet garden town for two more days at leisure and then join in the KE " Kiwi Explorer " hiking and touring trip on 26 November, afternoon.

Miss you all.

CK & Kitty/Christchurch, New Zealand, 10:25 am.

Hi everyone,

We have successfully completed the last 5-day/4-night trek in the west slope of Gonka Peak.

Although, we have experienced extreme weather and trekked on muddy/iced trail during the trek and camping - very cold in the night and occasionally heavy snowing, all the team members are perfectly fit and they enjoy the trip very much. The scenery, particularly the colourful autumn mountain views, is gorgeous and beautiful that can not be described by words and captured by pictures. To me, the 27-day trip is different, wonderful and something special. I will remember this as long as I live.

We are now staying in a fine Hotel right in the heart of the Cheng Du City. Some of the team members are doing shopping right now. We will be going home tomorrow morning and look forward to seeing you soon.

With love and best wishes from CK.

Thanks of your reply.

In fact, my suggestion is mainly for memory only that may be a year or two later, you want to look back where had you been, any interested things happened that could be shared with ....etc.

Any way, thanks.

Regards,

Dear Andrew,

From environmental and tree preservation point of view, provision of map and context is not necessary for the hikers. May I suggest giving a briefing about the route and checking points of the hiking prior setting off the trip would be sufficed.

Another alternative, perhaps this information could be available form the web site of HKEHT if technical feasible and resources are considered available.

Andrew Lee October 10, 2007, 10:50 am
Is it possible to have map to show the route and text to introduce the check point of each hiking ?

Friendly October 4, 2007, 12:05 am

October 3, 2007, 9:11 am
Dear Friendly,

Friendly October 2, 2007, 11:22 pm
Sir,

不要回憶過去,因為明天又是另一美好天 ( After all, tommorrow is another day )。

Some 20 years ago, I also joined the camping tour in Northern Europe and the USA organised by the Student Union Travel and "Hoi Tat" which was closed down.

It is a kind of experience and training I would say.

We are actually fighting against time. When the time we step in the camp site, we are working like bees moving around. Every minute is fully packed. Loading and unloading of gears every day and night. Preparation for dinner and cleaning works afterwards, when we get up in the morning, preparation for breakfast and packed lunch and cleaning works afterwards. We work according to schedule and it rotates. Yet we can still squeeze time for telephoning, writing diary, washing and bathing.

Comparing to Tanzania, camping in the Serengeti, it's totally different.

We were served by a crew of experts, 8 in number. They cooked fast and worked fast. When we settled down, dining table was set up and snacks were served. Hot water and cups were ready for drinks. What we needed were provided on the table. When we were having breakfast, tents were pulled down and packed. They took care of everything including toilet and shower tents, all luggages, chairs, tables, utensils ... We are free from triffles. It's so relaxing and enjoying.

We had plenty time of ourselves.

I could remember when I was in the Monument Valley, USA, after the thunderstorm for an hour, the sky was clear and lightning all the time. It's good to sit down and enjoy the scenery but I had to wash dishes as it's my turn.

I really want to write in Chinese but it's painful for me to write even a single word.

渭城朝雨浥輕塵,客舍青青柳色新;

紅豆生南國,春來發幾枝;

空山不見人,但聞人語響;
返景入森林,復照青苔上;

大漠孤煙直,長河落日圓;
晚年唯好靜,萬事不關心;
感激有公義,曲私非所求;

Hi everyone,

Now my trip in Bhutan enters the final curtain. At the moment, I am staying in the Hotel Riverview which is a concrete structure in Bhutanese style above the east bank of Thimphu River. Thimphu at an elevation of 2320 metre, became the Capital of Bhutan in 1961. The first vehicles appeared in Thimphu in 1962 and the town remained very rural until the late 1970s. The population is now estimated to be about 40000. The estimated total population of Bhutan is around 700000. I believe Thimphu is the only world capital without traffic lights and modern buildings in any forms. There is only one short main street in the town centre with a little square. Restaurants and shops are numbered with very limited choices. From my eyes, Thimphu is a very basic small town, identical to Cheung Chau Island in Hong Kong.

As to my trek to the Basecamp of Jhomohari ( 7314 metre ) in Bhutan, the weather was good in general. The trek is basically on a good trail ( with some rocky and muddy sections ), through the beautiful forest of the upper Paro Valley and along the Paro River to its main water source, the Jhomohari massif. When we reached the Basecamp just beneath the enormous east face of Jhomohari, the mountain scenery was superb and the beauty of the surroundings was beyond description. Jhomohari, one of the range of high Himalayan peaks is the sacred mountain and the second highest peak of Bhutan.

I was the only one of the six team members ( four from UK and one from USA ) to hike up the ridge near the Basecamp to a summit at about 5000 metre which offered incredible close views of several snow-capped peaks. It was indeed a gorgeous sight, such as one never sees in nowhere except on a remote high mountain top. That is to me the most beautiful scenery of all.

Altitude at Basecamp is 3985 metre. During our stay, the night time temperature dropped to freezing due to a short-time heavy snowing. But in return, the reward was a very splendid mountain and sunrise view in the following morning. During the whole trek, we have to walk 7 to 8 hours in average everyday.

Due to the road construction works between Thimphu and Paro, tomorrow afternoon, I will go to Paro town adjacent to the airport and overnight there in order to take the early flight in time to Calcutta and then connecting another flight to Hong Kong, my loved home town.

During this 26-day trip, I am glad that I have read four books ie., Luk Yau Poetry ; Andersen's Fairy Tale ; Trekking in the Indian Himalaya and Bhutan.

I long to see you all and I also miss very much the delicious food of Hong Kong.

A hearty blessing from CK,

Thimphu/Bhutan.

Hi Everyone,

I just finished the trek in the territory of the ancient Kingdom of Sikkim. Now, I am staying in an old-fashioned little hotel in the town of Kalimpong.

At the time that we trekked on the Singalila Ridge, the weather was extremely bad. The temperatures were 10-15 degree centigrade ( daytime ) and below 10 degree after dark, normally at around 5 to 6 pm. It seemed that the monsoon ( period between May to September ) has come earlier this year. Or perhaps we have done somethings bad so that the mountains do not like us to be here. We have trekked under considerable amounts of rain, strong wind, occasionally snowing, and short-lived storms with thundering and lightning almost occurred everyday. Due to constant heavy forst, the visibility was only 20 feet to 100 feet in average. During the whole trek, we can see nothing except flowers and trees only within short distance. We have only short-time sun ray leaking out from the heavy cloud in one or two days.

Today, we will have the morning to explore Kalimpong, a small town high on a ridge. After lunch, we will make a 4-hour drive to the Bhutanese border at Phuntsholling and overnight there. On 27 April, we will complete immigration formalities and have another 4-hour drive on a spectacular mountain road to the Paro Valley, Bhutan.

Bhutan lies in a hidden corner of the eastern Himalaya, China/Tibet to the north, Sikkim to the west and the Indian states of Assam & West Bengal to the south and Arunachal Pradesh to the east. Bhutan is often likened to Switzerland on account of its small sized and beautiful mountain scenery. The air is clean and unpolluted. Trekking in Bhutan has always been expensive, as tourism is one of the country's main sources of national income. To a nature lover like me, may be it is worth to pay for a memorable trekking and holidays in this remote area. Hopefully the weather is fine in the days to come hence, we can enjoy the beautiful wilderness and stunning mountain views.

Best regards from ancient Sikkim,
CK

Dear Choi Hung Friends & Law Yiu Leung,

Thank you so much for your poetry. Definitely, we will try our best to manage and run the Hong Kong Emerald Hiking Team (HKEHT) for the provision of quality activities for the HKEHT supporters, like all of you.

Now, I am staying in a charming, old-fashioned & English style Elgin Hotel ( an over 120 years old building), right in the heart of Darjeeling/India.

Darjeeling perched on the slopes of mountains and covered with dense forest is known as the "Queen of the hills". The name derives from "Dorji Ling", or the God of Thunder. Years ago, Darjeeling formed part of the independant Kingdom of Sikkim. As a result of the war between Sikkim and Nepal and also a series of incidents/disputes, in around 1852, Darjeeling became a portion of the British Indian Empire, and the remainder of Kingdom of Sikkim became a British protected State. When India became independant, Darjeeling became a portion of West Bengal/India.

Darjeeling, which is said as one of the best hill stations in the world, is covered with pine trees, rhododendrons & orchids. In addition, the massive bulk of Kangchenjun ( the third highest mountain, after Mt. Everest & K2 ) dominates the scene and houes are hugging the hillside. On 18-19 April, we take a sightseeing tour of some of the attractions around Darjeeling. These include monastery, old-fashioned railway station, tea plantations, Tibetan Refugee Centre, a narrow-guage railway train ride and relaxing in the Hotel's garden and nice decorated sitting rooms. Tomorrow, we will leave Elgin Hotel and drive two hours to a small village where we start our trek.

Have a great fun and good food on 27 April, the day of HKEHT 3rd Anniversary.

With love & best wish from Darjeeling/India,
CK

1. 符合翠綠隊原則和精神 ;
2. 調子輕快;
3. 易唱,易記;
4. 歌詞優雅 ;

Hello everyone,

Long time no see and miss you all.

I have completed the Ethiopia and Tanzania Trip and is now staying in the Impala Hotel which is also one of the Hotels for HK Emerald Hiking Team's Africa Trip in June/July this year. On 2 March (18:30), I will leave Arusha, Tanzania (via Addis Ababa/Ethiopia & one hour stop at Bangkok) and is expected to arrive Hong Kong on 3 March (18:30).

The main objective of my 3rd trip in this African region is to accomplish my unfinished dream 10 years ago ( summit ascent of Mt. Kilimanjaro). In 1997, I tried to walk up to the Mt. Kilimanjaro (Kili) summit with my wife and son, two nephews and two female friends. Unfortunately, when we reached the elevation of approxamately 4400m, due to my dear wife's syptoms of mountain sickness, I decided to take her down hill to a small but nice Hotel not far from the trekking entrance gate. We stayed there, waiting for the return of team members. Two days later, they failed to make it to the top and rejoined us to continue the rest of our journey. Perhaps, it was because that I was not there to encourage and help ?

Kili's snow-capped summit, rising high above the savanna, often with a giraffe posing in the foreground, is one of Africa's all-time classic image. This well-known classic image together with famous novels, motion pictures like Hatari and King Solomon's Mines etc., wild life, colourful tribal groups, African cultures, hiking & trekking, safaris and adventure story, attract me for a long time.

At 5896m, Kili is the highest mountain in Africa and one of the highest free-standing mountain in the world. It is attractive because with reasonable physical fitness and suitable acclimatisation, you can trek up all the way to the summit without the need for ropes or technical climbing experience. In fact, there are over five summit ascent routes open for trekking lovers.

The massif of Kili is roughly oval in shape, 40km to 60km in diametre, and rises almost 5000m above the surrounding plains. It is even more distinctive because it is not part of a chain or extended mountain range. It is also one of the highest free-standing volcanoes in the world. The mountain has been declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Basically, there are two main peak areas, Kibo and Mawenzi. They are separated by a broad plain called the "Saddle". The third peak area, Shira, lies at the western end of the massif but is lower. This is the area (Shira Plateau Londorossi Route) where we started our trek. This route on the far western side of the mountain is rarely used because the track is long and in bad condition. However, the scenery is fascinating (the flat grasslands of the plateau, ringed by sharp ridges, are unlike any other part of the Kili massif). Much of the plateau is now protected as part of the Shira Plateau Wilderness Area.

After the completion of 5-day summit trek on Mt. Meru (second highest peak in Tanzania), our next trek on Kili set off from the Londorssi Village. We trekked across the attractive moorland of the Shira Plateau, to the south circuit of Kibo Peak. After five days trek and camp on different elevations, at last we ascended the Great Barranco onto the southern slopes of Kibo Peak and camped near Barafu Hut (4600m). On day 6 (11:30pm, 27 Feb), 12 group members (mainly from UK and USA, only one female) started to climb to the crater rim at Stella Point, following the crater rim, at about 06:45am, on 28 Feb, 11 out of 12 group members have successfully ascended the summit. Dispite the fact that the climate on the top was not good enough (windy, bitter cold and cloudy) for us to see the surrounding plains and other peaks, such as Mawenzi, Mt. Meru and Mt. Kenya, I still very happy that my long time dream has come true. After a short stay, I descended to Barafu camp ground for a rest. After lunch, we further descended to the lower camp site (2950m). We have trekked up and down hill over 14 hours in a day.

The level of difficulty of this trek can be classified as demanding because it is on trek with long daily distance and different terrain with significant elevation changed, involving up and down rough track and high altitude camping. The climate is extreme for its rapidly changing conditions. We have encountered four seasons climate within the same day or just a few hours. When the frequent clouds roll in at the top of the peaks, temperatures are very low, rain and bitter cold are common during the trek. In the night time, occasionally, I have to put on gloves, woolen hat, warn cloth and slipped into the sleeping bag.

With warmest regards from Africa,
CK

Hi everyone,

Happy Lunar New Year !

As scheduled, I arrived Addis Ababa, Capital City of Ethiopia at 07:15 am on 14 February, 45 minutes late. Picked up by Dinknesh Ethiopia Tour to meet the Deputy Manager in his office. After lunch, I have a city tour of Addis Ababa that includes : National Musuem ( a small & not well presented museum, famous for the complete hominid fossil remain of Lucy, locally known as Dinknesh meaning wonderful ) ; Ethnological Musuem ( a better organized musuem having collections that describe almost all the 80 tribal groups in Ethiopia ) ; Merkato ( a large open-air market, confusing and dirty) ; Mount Entoto ( the highest peak in Addis Ababa, 3200 metres above sea level, a bird eyes view of the city ) ; St. Mary Church ( site of first palace of Emperor Menelik, the founder of Addis Ababa.

Since HKEHT is planning a visit to Ethiopia ( mainly in the northern part of the country ) in the coming June, I therefore choose to tour the southern area of Ethiopia that includes the rift valley ; lakes ; villages and different tribal groups in that regions. I have an interesting boat trip on Lake Chamo. During the boat ride, I have seen guite a large number of huge hippos and giant crocodiles and the water birds are great too. The scenery of the Lake Chamo and the wild life is really unforgettable. During the 3-day trip, I also spot various species of beautiful birds and different Ethiopian people. But one thing I have to mention is the poor standard of the hotel rooms within this region. That makes me not sleeping well for two nights ( eg for security reason, I cannot open the windows that causes me feeling hot inside the room ). I was told that the hotel room in the north is much more better due to more tourists in the recent years.

In general, as I see it the situation of Ethiopia is better than what I have seen in the TV news, news papers and magazines some years ago.

On 18 February, I will leave Ethiopia for Tanzania to start my trekking and camping trip to the summits of Mt. Kilimanjaro ( 5894 metres ) and Mt. Meru ( 4566 metres ).

With warnest regards and Year of Pig greetings from Ethiopia.

Hi everyone,

Mount Kilimanjaro (非洲最高點,海拔5894 metres) ;
Mount Meru (非洲第五高峰,海拔4566 metres).

~~~好羨慕你在2006年7月3日六十天環遊瑞典外國地方,一定好美,如果我是男兒身一定好似你一樣周圍去,始終唔想馬煩人地照顧,um....我去過最遠東歐,北歐,俄羅斯,D金色屋頂的東菇頭非常特別. 聽講南美州過邊好靚喎!
在境內遊~看到由城門水塘,翻走私嶺山脊,再走石梨水塘山脊落蘇屋.希望下次你地再舉辦這路線喇!我都好有興趣!
看過相簿內的西海南的瀑布好美,的山也好美.搞都我都心郁郁!!
~~~人生的旅程,能夠認識到對方是有緣,朋友之間的友情,我係一個好著重感情,無論友情,感情,親情,其實當中有份愛在內,有時人感到孤寂時候,需要神的愛,需人的的愛,需要身邊伴侶的關心,支持及愛.不過要去找適合伴侶並不容易,如:有性格,有智慧,有主見...最更要的是愛好行山,合自己的心意.
~~~其實我知道行山隊的存在,是我在住的地方附近行開山的,在2006年11月尾,有一天,在山上抖下抖,自己八掛,看見行山的男人同他老婆一起,他(原來他行澗的)打開地圖,自己好大擔,心口有個勇字,又面皮厚的我,開口問他一些可以行山的路段,因為我行到自己的區域好悶,傾傾下佢話我知有些密林可以行的,不過最好跟旅行隊行比較安全,之後就認識到你們了!!好係一個好珍惜的人,不過我都衡量自己這隊是否跟得上才行.
~~~而我第一次跟行山隊是綠茵隊,因為他搞的香港路線好特別,有的行小徑,荒徑,山徑,水管路,叢林,密林,秘密水管路,例如由土地灣出去大譚峽再去筲箕灣等,,,,如石牌山,砵典乍山果邊,當一個行山的發燒友好想行這段山徑時候,會先入為主,不過有一樣事情,我唔係好欣賞佢,用行山手段來搵著數,咁我都唔比去搵笨.只不過請佢飲茶,食飯,米算羅,佢有次要我讚助佢捐款項,咁我會去行山籌款,咁我邊有咁多錢比呀!咁我又初次參加行山隊,好似認威就你羅,錢就我地出,令到行山的意義變了質,不過隊出的路線如果合適的話我就行,,話知佢,,上次我同我班朋友唔彩佢有佢講野,我地無動於終,搞到好監介,,
~~~其實我現在知道要工作(儲蓄錢積屋防饑),我做緊兼職,如果路線ok我會行下.
好喇~~~傾到這,下次有緣的話再與你們再談吧!
祝 貴隊長線長開
人數多羅羅
Hi Wind 你/妳們好,
首先多謝你們瀏覽本隊的網址.
我已經看過你們在網上的資料.我相信你們不能如願出發往K2BC,是由於台灣和大陸在文化,制度和處事方法上的差異(可能各單位的利益衝突).
以下是香港翠綠遠足隊辦理K2BC的簡單過程 :
1. 接觸烏魯木齊市登山探險協會主席王鐵男(手機:13009681695/網址:www.cndiscovery.com),索取18天登山行程(烏市-喀什-K2BC-喀什-烏市).
2. 岳春穎小姐(又名小岳,協會辦事處職員),接手負責聯絡及安排有關事宜(非常滿意,電話:0991-4819963/電郵:ycy831207@163.com).
3. 團費每位人民幣6800,預繳定金3000,餘款在扺達烏市出發前付清.匯款用戶名是協會理事/新彊喬戈里高山探險服務有限公司總經理楊春風.
4. 以電郵發送清晰身份証明文件(回鄉証),辦理入山/邊防証(烏市軍區辦事處).
5. 通知協會航班資料.
6. 抵達烏市協會辦公室(烏市友好北路12號天一大廈B座2601),簽署合約/隊員健康申報表/終止活動情況表及付餘款.
希望以上資料能幫助你們再次策劃K2BC之旅.你們亦可參考一間已有20多年歷史的英國登山遠足公司(www.keadventure.com)主辦的K2BC行程,從巴基斯坦前往.你們可選擇更好的出發季節(因為在巴基斯坦方面沒有過河的問題),而且在冬季進山,天氣嚴寒,我們上次經歷了狂風暴雪之下翻越4000多米的山拗及晚上在帳蓬內氣溫低至攝氏零下20多度.
我們有意到台灣登山遠足,請介紹相關的協會/機構協助辦理登山手續/聘請導遊等事項.
With love from Hong Kong!
何先生您好,
於去年得知,您們去過K2 BC,亦是由楊春風先生辦理
我們今年2月也打算去,
但是卻得不到軍區許可
後來我們又馬上透過新疆山協,他們宣稱楊是不合法的,只能透過他們
但後來交涉的過程,又發生一些事,我稍稍整理了這些雜亂的過程
請您看一下,並予以賜教(原本於去年我就曾打電話(但老是關機),或寄信,但沒回音)
恭喜翠绿,恭喜自己!
选择 246 是因为按照现代人的理解, 2 可以读成 爱 , 46 是翠绿的近音.我的意思就是 爱翠绿 爱自然.这和我博客上 在绿色中行走 在海天间畅游 的休闲旅游理念很接近.
期待在新的一年里能有机会和各位热爱自然的翠绿朋友一起同行.
何志剛 January 5, 2007, 9:06 pm
Hi 各位翠綠朋友,
新的一年開始,祝大家生活愉快,身體健康.借此機會我想和你們分享我的強身健體心得.
多年以來,除了參加足球比賽(現已沒有出賽),外地遠足登山及本地行山外(每星期一天),無論在任何天氣下(除了雷電交加)我都會到附近硬地球場做運動約二小時.開始時,先做一些簡單柔軟體操約15-20分鐘,然後緩步跑一小時,跑步完畢再做約15-20分鐘自由伸展筋骨動作.在跑步期間,我選擇收聽香港電台第4台的音樂節目.
在外地登山遠足,我會選擇在酒店健身室或附近公園做自由體操及緩步跑.如果沒有適當地方,我亦會在狹窄的酒店房間內緩步跑及做自由體操.恆常的運動,使我有良好的體能和意志力去完成漫長和艱辛的遠足登山旅程.
根據我個人的經驗和觀察,自由體操,緩步跑,急步行和上落樓梯,是最好的強身健體運動,尤其對心肺功能幫助最大.其中的好處是你可以單獨在沒有任何壓力下進行.舉例而言,你不用跟隨別人,固定招式及動作.有些運動,在學習過程中會產生不同程度的有形或無形壓力,例如跟不上學習進度,學員間互相比較,未能牢記指定招式及正確動作等等.
另一方面,個人喜愛和能力也要考慮.如果你能夠勝任和熱愛所選擇的運動,好處是無用置疑的.選擇強身健體運動,年齡亦是一個重要因素,很明顯地,當我到達70歲時,我想我應該是時候放棄在崇山峻嶺登山遠足和徒步於崎嶇原始山野間.
愈來愈多事實和研究證明,從事自己可以應付自如悠閒帶氧健身運動,不但能使身體健康,也能令身心精神舒暢,可說是快樂的其中一個源泉.
健身運動是一項辛苦及沉悶的活動,要持之有恆是有難度的.要維持經常運動,主要是靠意志力,堅持和決心.意志力不足,時間和精神也白花了.要身心健康,運動是不可少的,當然亦要配合良好的生活及飲食習慣.
所以,我極力推薦大家考慮急步行,緩步跑及自由體操.可以時,放棄乘搭電梯,選擇步行上落台階讓運動成為生活的一部份,健康不難保持,在此再次祝你們身壯力健,日日開心.
翠綠遠足隊境內遠足今日正式開隊,多謝各方好友支持。
以簽到紀錄為準,參加總人數達到230人。
西海南之旅團友競猜開隊人數最接近為張雨的246人,相差數為16。
陳慶發猜211人,相差數為19,謹以小距離落敗,非常可惜。
恭喜小雨!但請提議頒獎方法。
